Eligibility: Senior Debaters – Years 10-13 (International Schools) / Forms 4-7 (Local Schools)

Overview

The second Senior Hong Kong Schools Debating Championship was held on the 12th February 2011 at Chinese International School. 24 teams from 23 schools in Hong Kong participated, with each team consisting of 3-5 members and debates are in Worlds Style.

German Swiss International School, Diocesan Boys School, LaSalle College and Chinese International School 1 broke into the semi-finals, debating the motion THW prohibit women over the age of 45 from assisted sexual reproduction.

LSC and CIS defeated their opponents and went on to debate the motion THBT the state should ban the media from broadcasting terrorist messages in the Grand Finals, with CIS winning Sr HKSDC Winter 2011.

Motions

  • R1 (Impromptu): THBT the state should regulate dating sites
  • R2 (Prep): THBT Korea should be re-unified
  • R3 (Prep): THBT population control should be a primary condition of developmental aid
  • SF (Impromptu): THW prohibit women over the age of 45 from assisted sexual reproduction.
  • GF: THBT the state should ban the media from broadcasting terrorist messages

Impromptu Speaking Tournament

The top five speakers who were not members of teams which had broken into the semi-finals competed in an impromptu speaking tournament which took place during the preperation time for the Final Round. The contestants were:

  • Katherine Pemberton, Chinese International School
  • Aspen Wang, Chinese International School
  • Angela Wu, King George V

Katherine Pemberton emerged victorious after giving a speech on the topic “The world needs more Justin Biebers”.
